Fairlead Courtyard
A slice of paradise on the cliffs of Pezula
Set on the cliffs of the rocky shoreline of the Garden Route, this north-facing, wind protected courtyard garden is the central garden space of the property. We designed and installed this low maintenance, naturalistic, lush and colourful garden that is an oasis for wildlife.
The courtyard space was previously completely overgrown and visually overwhelming. We identified that the alien species were blocking out most of the northern sunlight in the garden.
After removing the exotic species, the existing cycads and coral tree became the focal point of the space. We added layers of low-growing plants to make these spectacular plants stand out. The variety of texture of the plants adds depth to the planting layers.
The informal planting contrasts the structured geometry of the building and softens the lines thereof. The plant palette has been carefully curated to ensure there is always a pop of colour throughout the year.
